ILLEGAL TURTLE TRADE AND THE ISLANDS
OF LIES

(Points are not in numeric order but follow roughly the root of the illegal turtle trade).
Point 1a :
- Island of Lies, turtle park with souvenir shop and souvenirs made from turtle shells.

Point 2 :
- Secret turtle storage shelter on the beach owned most definitely by Pak Sana.
- In the courtyard, protected from public viewing, mountain of turtle shell.
- Evidences of relative freshness are the flies still all over the turtle shell mountain.
- In the neighboring solid building, you find the intermediate storage area for live turtles. On January 4, 2003 there were approximately 12 – 15 turtles in storage.
- The secret turtle shelter is located behind the trees next to the garbage area. Seen from south.
- During the 2nd visit (January 4, 2003) there stood a pick up truck next to the secret turtle shelter. The truck arrived shortly before. The driver of the truck brought back 2 empty turtle shells from 2 large slaughtered turtles, which he shortly before delivered to the questioned storage area, from the beach to a restaurant (no name received) close to Tragia Supermarket Nusa Dua. The pick up truck registration number is DK 9638. See picture 21 – 23. The driver confirmed that mostly at night turtles are moved from the cages on the Island of Lies to the secret turtle shelter on the beach. So restaurants can be delivered at any time. The empty turtle shells are then taken back after the slaughter and are put into the storage again as seen in the picture. A visit to the restaurant next to Tragia did not confirm that they received the delivery. They denied to serve turtle satays.

The owner is Taiwanese with his wife from Java, has nothing to do with the illegal turtle trade (remark : he confirms that he deals with decorative fishes, which are caught with Zyanid). The address above is listed so the secret turtle shelter place can be precisely found.
- Warung Dobil confirmed that they offer turtle satays. Normally on Mondays, but not always. On Monday (January 6, 2003) was as confirmed by the warung owner 2 days prior turtle satays available.
